The ICC has announced its Women’s ODI Team of the Year for 2024, with two Indian cricketers making the prestigious list. The team recognizes the best performances in women’s one-day international cricket over the past year.
These exceptional athletes have been acknowledged for their outstanding contributions, with India being well-represented in the lineup. This recognition highlights the growing presence and impact of Indian women cricketers on the global stage.
Laura Wolvaardt is the captain of the ICC women’s ODI team of the year 2024.
On January 24, the ICC unveiled the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024, with South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt named captain. Wolvaardt earned her spot as the second-highest run-scorer in WODIs last year, amassing 697 runs, just behind India’s Smriti Mandhana, who topped the charts.
The team’s middle order is packed with world-class all-rounders, starting with Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka’s captain, who scored 458 runs and took nine wickets in nine matches. Right behind her is Hayley Matthews of the West Indies, a spin-bowling all-rounder who scored 469 runs and took nine wickets in just seven games.
Marizanne Kapp, the legendary South African pace-bowling all-rounder, contributed 12 wickets and 114 runs, while Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner, a spin-bowling all-rounder, shone with 269 runs and 20 wickets in 12 matches, forming the backbone of the side.
The team’s lower-middle order is further strengthened by Annabel Sutherland from Australia, who scored 369 runs and took 13 wickets in 12 matches, and Amy Jones from England, who accumulated 382 runs and 15 dismissals in 12 games.
Deepti Sharma from India made the cut, having claimed 24 wickets and scored 186 runs in 13 matches. The England duo of Sophie Ecclestone (21 wickets in 11 matches) and Kate Cross (19 wickets in 13 matches) also earned their places in this stellar lineup.
