Yashasvi Jaiswal Fumes at Hazlewood’s Send-Off, Umpire Steps In to Restrain Heated Exchange with Patidar

The heated exchange between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Josh Hazlewood escalated to the point where the umpire was forced to step in and intervene.

Hazlewood vs Jaiswal: Fiery Duel Ends in Heated Send-Off

Rajasthan Royals’ chase of 206 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday turned into a dramatic showdown between Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Josh Hazlewood and RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The fierce contest ended with Hazlewood having the last laugh, responding to Jaiswal’s dismissal with a fiery send-off that left the batter visibly angry and forced umpire intervention.

The duel ignited in the fourth over of the innings when Jaiswal, already on a rampage with 23 off his first eight balls, faced Hazlewood’s barrage of short-pitched deliveries. After three dot balls on a leg-stump line, Hazlewood shifted his line — and Jaiswal pounced, smashing three consecutive boundaries to assert dominance.

The battle reignited in the final over of the powerplay. Jaiswal hammered two fours and a six off Hazlewood’s first four deliveries, but the Aussie pacer adjusted smartly, switching his angle and delivering a slower ball aimed into Jaiswal’s body. Cramped for room on a pull shot, the left-hander mistimed it to midwicket, falling for 49 — one short of a well-deserved half-century.

As the catch was taken, Hazlewood celebrated with an aggressive send-off, signaling Jaiswal back to the dugout. Jaiswal didn’t take it lightly, exchanging words before walking off, prompting the umpire to step in and issue a warning to RCB skipper Rajat Patidar to cool things down.

Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal struck breezy half-centuries to power Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a formidable 205 for five against Rajasthan Royals—their highest-ever IPL total against RR, surpassing their previous best of 200/7 at the same venue back in 2015.

On a surface where timing the ball wasn’t easy, RCB also benefited from late fireworks by Jitesh Sharma (20* off 10) and Tim David (23 off 15), whose big hits pushed the total past the 200-run mark.

Earlier, Kohli (70 off 42) and Padikkal (50 off 27) put on a fluent 95-run stand for the second wicket, expertly navigating the middle overs and laying the foundation for a strong finish.

In response, Rajasthan once again faltered in a chase that seemed within reach. Despite being in a solid position, they lost four wickets in just six balls during the death overs, eventually falling short by 11 runs and continuing their disappointing run in IPL 2025.
