IPL 2025 Halted for One Week: Revised Schedule and Venues to Be Announced Soon

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a one-week suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, as confirmed on Friday, May 9. This decision follows the interruption of the 59th match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday, May 8.

IPL 2025: The match, held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala, was disrupted during the first innings due to a city-wide power outage that caused the floodlights in the stadium to fail. As a result, players, umpires, match officials, support staff, and spectators were swiftly evacuated.

In response to the situation, the BCCI arranged for all players and match officials to travel from Dharamsala to Delhi by train, as air travel in the city was also impacted.

IPL 2025 Suspended for One Week Effective Immediately

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended for one week with immediate effect, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced. The decision follows a disruption during the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Delhi Capitals (DC) match, which was abandoned on May 8 due to security concerns.

Rajiv Shukla, IPL 2025, Vice-President, previously confirmed the match’s cancellation, citing security issues. He also mentioned that a definitive decision on the tournament’s future would be made soon. Following this, BCCI released an official statement confirming the one-week suspension.

“IPL 2025: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” the official statement read.

So far, IPL 2025 has witnessed 58 completed matches, excluding the PBKS vs DC game, which was called off. With a total of 74 matches scheduled for the season, 16 games remain, including the playoffs and final. Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) currently hold the top two positions on the points table.

The suspension comes amid escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border. On April 22, The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-based terror group, carried out an attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians. In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK).

The resulting security concerns have impacted multiple regions, including Dharamsala. The BCCI previously condemned the Pahalgam attack and paid tribute to the victims during a game between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
