In the 61st game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 19. The match will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
The doubleheader on Sunday, May 18, featured Delhi Capitals vs. Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals vs. Punjab Kings. These matches were crucial for deciding which teams advance to the playoffs. Both Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings secured their spots in the top four by winning their respective games. Additionally, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also qualified for the next stage of the tournament.
With 10 points from 11 games, LSG currently sit seventh in the points table. They have a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.469 and have won five matches so far.
How Can Lucknow Super Giants Qualify for the Playoffs?
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have three matches left to play. They will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 19, Gujarat Titans on May 22, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 27. To have a chance at making the playoffs, LSG must win all three remaining games, which would take them to 16 points and possibly secure a spot in the top four. If they lose even one match, they will finish the group stage with 14 points and be knocked out.
Currently, Mumbai Indians (MI) with 14 points and two games left, Delhi Capitals (DC) with 13 points and two games left, and LSG with 10 points and three games left, are the main teams competing for a playoff spot. Additionally, the results of other matches will heavily influence LSG’s chances.
Lucknow Super Giants: If MI win just one of their remaining matches, they will reach 16 points. In that case, qualification will come down to Net Run Rate (NRR). MI’s current NRR is +1.156, while LSG’s is -0.469. This means that even if LSG win all their remaining games, MI’s single win could still eliminate LSG based on NRR.
Therefore, Lucknow Super Giants will need MI to lose both their remaining matches against DC and Punjab Kings (PBKS), and also hope that PBKS beat DC. There is no other scenario where LSG can finish alone with 16 points and secure a playoff spot.
