Yograj Singh Blasts Ex-Selectors for Ruining Players’ Careers After 2011 World Cup Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has launched a scathing attack on the ex-selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), accusing them of derailing the careers of seven prominent players, including his son Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, and others. He specifically criticised former selector Mohinder Amarnath for mismanaging the team during a crucial phase.
Yograj claimed that despite MS Dhoni losing five consecutive series, he was retained as captain, while several key players were unceremoniously dropped. “You just destroyed these boys for no reason,” he told InsideSport, naming Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid among those affected.
MS Dhoni: You just destroyed the team after the 2011 World Cup – Yograj Singh

The Indian team, which had a solid core of players including Dhoni, Yuvraj, and Gambhir, triumphed in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. However, their fortunes dipped soon after, with India suffering a 0-4 whitewash in Test series against both England and Australia. These defeats triggered a wave of changes, with several veterans being dropped.
Yograj alleged that the selectors had even decided to remove MS Dhoni from captaincy, a move reportedly backed by Mohinder Amarnath, then a senior member of the selection panel. However, MS Dhoni remained at the helm, reportedly due to the support of then-BCCI President N. Srinivasan. MS Dhoni eventually retired from Tests in 2014.
“We lost five series under MS Dhoni , and Amarnath had been told he would be replacing him. But that’s not how it should have been handled,” Yograj added, blaming mismanagement and internal politics for the decline of a once-dominant side.
