Smriti Mandhana shatters Virat Kohli’s record, registers fastest ODI century by an Indian batter

Smriti Mandhana smashed a brilliant 125 off 65 balls against Australia Women in the third ODI.

The Indian opener etched her name in the history books by breaking Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian batter—across both men’s and women’s cricket.

Mandhana’s record-breaking innings came in the series-deciding third match of the three-game ODI series against Australia Women at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Saturday, September 20.

After Australia posted a daunting total of 412, India got off to a flying start thanks to Mandhana’s aggressive stroke play. She dominated from the outset, putting immense pressure on the bowlers.

Virat Kohli: Continuing her golden form from the previous game, Mandhana played some exquisite shots, hardly making a mistake. She reached the fastest fifty by an Indian woman in ODIs in just 23 balls.

But she didn’t stop there. Mandhana went on to register her second consecutive century of the series in just 50 balls—the fastest by an Indian woman in ODI history—shattering her own previous record of a 70-ball hundred against Ireland.

Virat Kohli: Smriti Mandhana’s 50-ball century is now the fastest by any Indian batter in ODI cricket, across both men’s and women’s formats. She surpassed Virat Kohli’s 52-ball century against Australia in 2013.

Mandhana finished her innings with 125 runs off just 65 balls, striking at over 198. During her explosive knock, she smashed 17 fours and five sixes, dominating the opposition throughout her time at the crease.
