Indian opener Abhishek Sharma continued his stellar run in the Asia Cup 2025, smashing a brilliant half-century against Bangladesh in the Super Four clash on Wednesday, September 24, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In the process, the left-hander broke a significant record, surpassing Rohit Sharma for the most sixes by an Indian in a multi-nation T20I tournament.
Chasing a commanding start, Abhishek Sharma unleashed a dominant innings, scoring 75 off just 37 deliveries. His knock included six boundaries and five towering sixes, boasting a strike rate of over 202, as he relentlessly pressured the Bangladeshi bowlers with his aggressive strokeplay.
Abhishek Sharma seemed on course for a big hundred, but his innings ended in misfortune with a run-out while attempting a quick single. This marked his second consecutive half-century in the tournament, following a 74-run effort against Pakistan in India’s previous match.

Abhishek Sharma has smashed 17 sixes in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, surpassing Rohit Sharma’s previous record of 15 sixes in a T20I tournament for India, set during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In addition, Abhishek has also overtaken Sanath Jayasuriya’s record for the most sixes in an Asia Cup tournament. The former Sri Lanka captain had hit 14 sixes in the 2008 Asia Cup, which was contested in the ODI format.

Despite this solid start, India’s middle order couldn’t capitalize, leaving the team at 129/5.
