Asia Cup 2025: Shaheen Afridi Responds to Suryakumar Yadav’s “No India-Pakistan Rivalry” Comment: “We’ll See When the Moment Comes”

Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi has vowed that his team will give their best shot to win the Asia Cup 2025.

Shaheen Afridi remarks come in response to Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav’s statement claiming that “there is no rivalry between India and Pakistan” anymore. Yadav made the comment after India’s Super Four victory over Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, emphasizing India’s dominant record against their arch-rivals.

India have historically held the upper hand in T20Is, winning 12 out of 15 encounters against Pakistan. In the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, India have continued their supremacy, defeating Pakistan in both previous meetings. In the group stage, they chased down Pakistan’s 128-run target with seven wickets to spare. In the Super Four clash, Suryakumar Yadav’s side successfully chased 172 runs, securing a six-wicket victory over the Men in Green.

“Let him say what he wants”: Shaheen Afridi responds to Suryakumar Yadav’s “no rivalry” comment

After India’s Super Four win over Pakistan, Suryakumar Yadav remarked, “I think you should stop asking questions on the rivalry because rivalry, is when both sides play 15-20 matches, and one side is ahead by 8-7. It is called playing good cricket and a rivalry. 3-0, 10-1, I don’t know what the stat is, but this is not a rivalry anymore.”

Ahead of Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2025 clash against Bangladesh, Shaheen Afridi responded to Yadav’s comments. The left-arm pacer said Pakistan still have a chance to outperform India if both teams reach the final.

“Let him say what he wants. Neither he nor we have reached the final yet. We will see when the moment comes. It is our job to win. We have come to win the Asia Cup, and we will give our best,”Shaheen Afridi stated.

Reflecting on his own performances in the tournament, Shaheen Afridi emphasized his commitment to giving his all in every facet of the game.

“Like in the last two matches, my job is to perform whenever I get an opportunity, whether it’s bowling, batting, or fielding. I always give 100%. It’s important to lift the team’s morale and play with full energy in every moment,” he added.

Pakistan, meanwhile, kept their Asia Cup 2025 final hopes alive with a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in their previous game. Their next encounter against Bangladesh on September 25 could serve as a virtual knockout for both teams.
