Mohsin Naqvi Issues Apology to BCCI Regarding Asia Cup Trophy Controversy

Mohsin Naqvi did not present the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to the Indian cricket team after the final. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has since apologised to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the incident. He has agreed to return the trophy but requested that India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, collect the trophy and medals from the ACC office in Dubai—a condition that the BCCI has rejected.

After defeating Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28 in Dubai, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi during the post-match ceremony. Consequently, Mohsin Naqvi retained the trophy and winners’ medals and left with the silverware.

India later celebrated their victory on the podium without the trophy. The BCCI subsequently issued a strong statement demanding that the ACC chairman return the trophy and medals to the team.

BCCI Denies Mohsin Naqvi’s Request to Collect Asia Cup 2025 Trophy from Dubai

According to India Today, Mohsin Naqvi softened his stance and issued an apology to the BCCI during the ACC meeting on September 30. Despite this, he insisted that the Indian captain should personally collect the medals and trophy from the ACC office in Dubai.

The BCCI, however, has rejected Mohsin Naqvi request, insisting that the handover follow the official ACC protocols. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla emphasized that the trophy belongs to the ACC as an institution, not to any individual, and criticized Naqvi for taking both the trophy and medals without following proper procedures.

Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the Indian team had decided not to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who is also a minister in the Pakistan government.

“We have consciously decided not to receive the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who is one of Pakistan’s senior leaders,” Saikia said. He added that Naqvi actions were “extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike,” and that the trophy should be returned according to established protocols.
