Harshal Patel of Punjab Kings won the Purple Cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, taking 24 wickets in 14 matches.
The Purple Cap is given to the bowler with the most wickets at the end of the season, and in IPL 2024, top foreign players and promising Indian bowlers competed for it.
A total of 14 bowlers have won the Purple Cap at the end of the season over the 17 IPL editions. Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap in 2021 with RCB, became only the third bowler in IPL history to win it twice.
Dwayne Bravo, playing for CSK in 2013 and 2015, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and 2017, are the other bowlers who have won the Purple Cap twice.

In 2013, Bravo took 32 wickets, which is the most by any bowler in a single edition of the IPL. Harshal Patel matched this record in 2021.
The player with the most wickets in the tournament wears the Purple Cap while playing. The bowler with the most wickets at the end of the tournament wins the Purple Cap award. If two bowlers have the same number of wickets, the one with the better economy rate ranks higher.
Interestingly, only three times has the player with the most wickets also come from the team that won the title: Sohail Tanvir in 2008 for Rajasthan Royals, RP Singh in 2009 for Deccan Chargers, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in 2016 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The IPL 2024 started on March 22, and the final was played on May 26. Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad to win their third title at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
