Delhi Capitals’ head coach Jonathan Batty felt that his team’s failure to build big partnerships led to their defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore. DC scored only 141 runs, which RCB chased down easily with 22 balls left.
DC started well despite losing Shafali Verma early. Jemimah Rodrigues played aggressively, scoring 59 runs with Meg Lanning. However, after Jemimah got out, the team collapsed. Batty believed DC needed 30-40 more runs to be competitive.
Jonathan Batty Said:
“Batting was tough early, but we were happy with 55/1 in the powerplay,” Batty said. “RCB bowled well at the start, and though Meg and Jemimah fought hard, we lost wickets too easily later.”
RCB’s openers, Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, dominated, scoring 107 runs in under 11 overs. “141 was never enough,” Batty admitted. “With dew making batting easier, we needed early wickets but couldn’t create enough pressure.”
Despite the loss, Batty praised Jemimah for her positive batting, saying she played with good intent. He also noted that pitch conditions in Vadodara had changed, making high scores harder, but he still expected some big totals in upcoming games.
DC will look to improve in their next match.
