MS Dhoni included his former teammate Yuvraj Singh in his dream batting lineup. Although Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020, he continues to entertain fans through his appearances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As captain of the Indian cricket team, he led several legendary players and played a crucial role in nurturing young talent during his tenure.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli emerged as key pillars of India’s batting lineup during the latter part of MS Dhoni’s captaincy. After Dhoni stepped down, Kohli took over the leadership before eventually handing it to Rohit, who went on to lead India to ICC title victories in 2024 and 2025.
MS Dhoni Sticks with Indian Icons for His Dream Top-Order
In a recent appearance on a podcast hosted by popular YouTuber Raj Shamani, MS Dhoni opened up about his dream batting lineup. When asked about his ideal top-order, the former India and CSK captain didn’t hesitate to name Indian cricket legends—Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sourav Ganguly.
“I would stick to my Indian players,” Dhoni said. “Viru pa (Virender Sehwag) opening the innings—so Viru pa, Sachin, Dada (Sourav Ganguly). Imagine all of them in their prime. The beauty is, when you watch them play, it feels like there’s no one better. Cricket has its ups and downs, which makes picking just a few tough, but we all grew up watching them dominate.”
Dhoni also gave a special mention to Yuvraj Singh, who was instrumental in India’s 2011 World Cup victory, earning the Player of the Tournament award. However, Dhoni emphasized that instead of choosing favorites, he prefers to appreciate all of them.
“When Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) was smashing six sixes, you’d feel like there’s no one else you’d rather watch. So why pick one? Why not enjoy all of them?” Dhoni said. “Each one of them played a crucial role for India and helped us win many tournaments.”
Interestingly, Dhoni didn’t mention modern-day stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in his list. Rohit holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI history (264), while Kohli recently surpassed Tendulkar’s record with 51 ODI centuries.
Currently, Dhoni is focused on the IPL 2025 season with Chennai Super Kings. Under new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK has had a rocky start, managing just one win in their first four matches.
