When did the Punjab Kings last play in an IPL final?

Punjab Kings will be appearing in the IPL final for the second time. Led by Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have delivered an outstanding performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The franchise has secured a spot in the final and will be eager to claim their first-ever IPL title.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) has been one of the most consistent teams in this season. With many uncapped players in their squad, Shreyas Iyer has expertly guided the team. They finished the league stage at the top of the points table, winning nine out of 14 matches.

However, PBKS had a disappointing outing in Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The team, led by Iyer, was comprehensively defeated by eight wickets at their home ground, the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.

They bounced back strongly in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians (MI), delivering a dominant performance with both bat and ball to secure their place in the final.

Shreyas Iyer was the standout performer for Punjab Kings, leading from the front with one of his best IPL innings. Chasing a target of 204 runs, he took charge, ensuring the pressure didn’t overwhelm the team despite wickets falling at the other end.

Iyer, who crossed 600 runs in IPL 2025, remained unbeaten on 87 off 41 balls, guiding PBKS to a five-wicket victory with an over to spare. Alongside him, Nehal Wadhera (48) and Josh Inglis (38) played crucial supporting roles.

Punjab Kings will now face RCB in the IPL 2025 final, scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3rd. Since neither team has won the title before, the final promises to be a thrilling contest, guaranteed to crown a new champion.

When was the last time PBKS played in the IPL final?

Punjab Kings, previously known as Kings XI Punjab, will be appearing in the IPL final for the second time. Their last appearance in the final was in 2014, led by George Bailey. In that match, they faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who were captained by Gautam Gambhir.

However, it was not a fairytale ending for the Punjab-based team as they lost the match. Punjab had a strong batting performance, thanks to a century by Wriddhiman Saha (115*), posting a total of 199 runs.

But PBKS couldn’t hold on, as KKR produced a better effort. Manish Pandey played an outstanding innings of 94 runs, guiding KKR to chase down the target with three balls remaining and three wickets in hand, crowning them the new champions.
