Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced the appointment of former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron as their new bowling coach, effective ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Aaron will be stepping into the role previously held by ex-New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin, who served as SRH’s bowling coach during the 2025 season.
Varun Aaron, a former right-arm pacer known for his raw pace, represented India in nine Test matches and nine One Day Internationals (ODIs), picking up 18 wickets in Tests and 11 in ODIs. His international career was marked by speed and aggression, though injuries often hampered his consistency.
Varun Aaron also has extensive experience in the IPL, having featured in 52 matches across several franchises. He last appeared in the league during the 2022 season with Gujarat Titans. Over the years, he has also turned out for Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Across his IPL career, Aaron has taken 44 wickets at an average of 33.66.
With his rich playing experience and knowledge of Indian conditions, SRH will hope Aaron can bring fresh energy and strategic insight to their bowling unit in the upcoming seasons.

Varun Aaron, who served as a commentator during IPL 2025, is set to take over the role previously held by Franklin, who was appointed as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the same season.
In IPL 2025, SRH failed to secure a spot in the playoffs. Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, the team finished sixth on the points table with 13 points. Out of 14 matches, they won six, lost seven, and one ended with no result. Heinrich Klaasen was the leading run-scorer for SRH with 487 runs, followed by Abhishek Sharma with 439. On the bowling front, Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel led the attack, each claiming 16 wickets. Notably, SRH were the runners-up in the 2024 season.
