Asia Cup: In their final group fixture against Afghanistan, a must-win game, Bangladesh batted first and posted 154/5, with Tanzid Hasan leading the way with 52. Afghanistan came close, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 35 and Azmatullah Omarzai adding 30, but they fell eight runs short, finishing at 146.
By the end of the group stage, Bangladesh recorded two wins from three matches with a net run rate of -0.270, keeping them firmly in contention for a place in the Super Four stage.
How Can Bangladesh Make It to the Super Four in Asia Cup 2025?
For Bangladesh to advance to the Super Four, they are reliant on a big win by Afghanistan over Sri Lanka. The Litton Das-led team can only qualify if Sri Lanka suffers a heavy collapse or if Afghanistan chases down their target at lightning speed.
Asia Cup: In numerical terms, Sri Lanka’s net run rate (NRR) would need to drop below -0.270. While theoretically possible, such a scenario is extremely unlikely in T20 cricket. Ultimately, Bangladesh’s fate rests in Sri Lanka’s hands, and they can only hope for a win against Afghanistan.
