ACC Chief Mohin Naqvi Denies Apologising to BCCI Over Asia Cup Trophy Controversy

ACC and PCB chief Mohin Naqvi has hit back at media reports claiming he apologised to the BCCI for the Asia Cup trophy fiasco, stating he would never do so. The controversy erupted after Naqvi walked off with the silverware post-final, leaving the Indian team still awaiting their winner’s medals.

Mohsin Naqvi clarified that he was willing to hand over the trophy to India immediately after the final and remains ready to do so, provided the team collects it directly from the ACC office.

Indian media thrives on lies, not facts. Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologized to the BCCI nor will I ever do so. This fabricated nonsense is nothing but cheap propaganda, aimed only at misleading their own people. Unfortunately, India continues to drag politics into cricket, damaging the very spirit of the game. As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me,” Mohsin Naqvi wrote on X.

India Refuses Asia Cup Trophy from ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi

India were not awarded the Asia Cup trophy on Sunday after refusing to accept it from Najam Sethi Naqvi, who is both a Pakistan government minister and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, known for his strong anti-India political stance.

Reports suggest the BCCI is preparing to take a firm position against Mohsin Naqvi and may push for his removal as ACC president. Earlier on Tuesday, the Indian cricket board lodged a “strong objection” at the Asian Cricket Council’s AGM over not receiving the trophy, but Naqvi “refused to agree” to the demand.

Sources told Hindustan Times that Naqvi felt disrespected and claimed he was unaware of India’s stance. BCCI representatives Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar countered that the trophy belongs to the ACC and should be handed to the rightful winners.

When the medals and the Asia Cup trophy will be handed over to India, this decision has been deferred as no solution was found during the ACC meeting. Naqvi argued he was disrespected and had no prior knowledge of India’s decision not to receive the trophy from him. However, Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar stated the trophy is ACC property and should go to the rightful winners. Since no amicable solution emerged, the decision has been deferred to another meeting,” sources said.
